Soweto Festival Returns to
celebrate Soweto with a Bang!
That time of year has arrived - the much anticipated Soweto Festival is back, bolder, bigger, better than ever. Proudly South African, proudly Sowetan ,from the 24 to the 27 of September at the University of Johannesburg Soweto Campus the eclectic, vibey festival promises to have you body shaking, mouth watering, youth talking, thought provoking, hands clapping, feet stomping - Soweto style!
Hosted by the City of Joburg, the top shayela festival is rooted in Soweto's rich heritage, the home of Nobel Prize winners, soccer and music legends, whose legacies live on and resonate in the spirit of South Africa's most metropolitan township. So gear up because from Heritage Day from Mofolo to Moroka, Sandton to Southgate, all roads lead to the Soweto Festival.
From Hip-Hop to House greats, Maskandi to Kings of Kwaito, from Gospel to sultry Soul this year's electrifying entertainment will be heating things up all day long.
Inside the 6 000 sq m air conditioned exhibition marquee one of the highlights is the Shoprite Taste Sensation hosted by local and international award winning celebrity chef, Citrum Khumalo. Once a dishwasher, aspiring to be a chef running an SMME, he has now become one of South Africa's top chefs and business success stories, with his own SABC television show.
To keep you cool making its debut with a splash, on the 24th is the colourful Aquatic Sports Event at the Orlando Dam, which will include gripping dragon boat racing, canoe polo games and impressive dragon dance with an eye dotting ceremony.
Of the many exciting activities, the Festival spotlight will be on SMME's creating networking opportunities, exposure of their businesses, encouraging them to participate meaningfully in the mainstream economy, to make their mark as trend setters in fashion, print communication, jewellery and much more.
The festival will be open to the youth on the 21st and 22nd of September. In partnership with the Gauteng City Region Academy, school learners will be bussed in for a vibrant programme including talent shows, music, dance, edutainment, talks on life skills and motivational speakers from all walks of life.
The Festival will also be the final leg of the Joburg Shopping Festival. We welcome shoppers to shop until they drop at our over 250 exhibition stands with specials on products and services ranging from crafts to bed and breakfasts, cell phone banking to international tours. When the shopping bag is about to overflow, the festival will also be giving out exciting prizes and give-aways.
The festival is organized by Adele Lucas Promotions in partnership with the Greater Soweto Business Forum. Tickets are R20 for adults and R10 for kids under 12 and pensioners, and are available at the gate.
